Attachment restrictions

With the Attachment restrictions page, you have the ability to specify which email attachments/file types should be permitted and which ones should be denied.

The following restrictions can be configured:

RestrictionDescription
Blocked ExtensionsMessages that have an attachment with any of the selected extensions will be rejected. See How to Block specific attachment file types.
Restriction optionsBlock password-protected archive attachments – If enabled, blocks messages with password protected attachments like zip files. See How to Block password-protected archive attachments.
Block potentially unwanted attachments – If enabled, rejects attachments on inbound messages only that are considered dangerous or unwanted. See How to Block potentially unwanted attachments.
Block Attachments Containing Hidden Executables – If enabled, emails are checked and the message will be rejected if the archive appears to contain an executable. See How to Block attachments containing Hidden Executables.
Block attachments with macros – If enabled, then any message with a document based attachment (.doc, .xls, .ppt etc) that contains any kind of macro will be rejected. See How to Block attachments with macros.
